The Rewards of a New Career: One Nurse’s Story

September 9, 2008 by Nursingonlineeducation.com

Welcome back!

Joanne DeFazio was a single Mom trapped in a dead end job with virtually no upward mobility path. She knew that she needed to make a change, but she also had to continue to provide for her young son. Quitting her job and enrolling in school was not a feasible option for Joanne. She had to find a unique way to both increase her earnings and gain long-term career potential without sacrificing her current income or time from her child. No easy answer was immediately apparent.

Joanne’s neighbor, Cindy, provided the answer Joanne needed over a neighborly cup of coffee: Become a nurse! Cindy was an RN, has a great career at a local hospital and, like Joanne, had solved a similar problem without having to enroll at a college campus, quit her job or take much-needed time away from her growing family. Needless to say, Joanne was all ears.

Training online from an accredited nursing online school was the answer

Cindy pointed out to Joanne that thanks to today’s Internet, she could train to become a nurse online without ever commuting to a conventional campus and while she continued working. Moreover, she could work at her own pace.

Cindy had done just that and began as an LPN (licensed practical nurse) a little over one year after she began her nursing education. Then, through continuing course education nursing online, Cindy had continued her training and stepped-up to become an RN (registered nurse) in just two more years.

She had also specialized in Pediatric nursing, a specialty that was very much in demand at her hospital.

Cindy pointed out to Joanne that when she first considered nursing as a career. She did so after reading a story in a national magazine about the careers with the biggest growth potential. Healthcare in general and nursing in particular, were high on the list. From there, Cindy went online and discovered a free guide entitled “Getting a Nursing Degree in Your Pajamas” which was available just be requesting a copy from: http://nursingonlineeducation.com . She suggested that Joanne do the same thing.

The guide really opened Joanne’s eyes to the possibilities

Joanne did just that. She logged onto the web, went to the site Cindy suggested and requested her own free copy of the guide. In a few days, she was fully informed about the practical possibilities of becoming a nurse by training with a nursing online registered school and began investigating many of the Internet organizations that offered the training she needed. She finally chose a college degree nursing online school, enrolled and began studying for a BSN (Bachelor of Science Nursing).

Now Joanne is an RN with a great career and better income

Approximately two and one half years later, Joanne DeFazio received her BSN degree and was quickly hired as an RN by the same local hospital Cindy works for. Her monthly earnings are more than twice what she was making and she has an open career path for even higher positions. Right now, Joanne is still studying online because she wants to earn her MSN (Master of Science Nursing) degree

that will further increase her responsibilities and her earnings. Her degree graduate nursing online school will make it possible. Joanne’s future is now wide open for advancement.
